Club Update – 2016 Round 13

By Dan Henderson, Director of Rugby

This was an important rugby day with required results – if we were to progress to finals rugby across our top grades.

4th Grade 29-5 Win
Starting the day was a solid performance from our 4th grade squad with a commanding win against the home side. Watching as we worked maul in 4th grade stunned even the Ref, who had to ask “where the try was scored” as our Club Captain Trevor Rangel strolled over.

3rd Grade 12-39 Loss
A large number of players were again forced to back-up – the result was another loss.

Colts 46-7 Win
Putting together another dominant performance, the building blocks are in place to wrap their regular season in an outstanding 2nd position. This win puts this squad in striking distance of the minor premiership title fight!

2nd Grade 36-12 Win
This was a must-win match to remain in the hunt for finals shot. This team was strengthened by the return of the platform-setting, strong ball carriers like Terry Langi and Chris Sefo, alongside full complement of first-choice backs who were missing the week before. They put together a commanding performance, toppling a Lindfield side who currently sit in 3rd position, holding onto the 4th spot for another week.

1st Grade 39-20 Win
With an opportunity to cement a playoff position – this match was always going to be tough from the outset!

The mental challenge began early with Lindfield’s mounting relentless attack and sustained pressure. Playing like it was their last stand, they threw everything they had at our lads and with 50/50 calls going the way of the home side the halftime lead to the home team meant change was required, and players were asked to step up.

The backs fired in this game and individual brilliance lead the team back into controlling play. Standout performances lead by vice-captain, Luke Giles, and a man-of-the-match performance by Wise Gavidi who is running into great form at the right end of the season.

A special mention to the game-changing performance of Tom Stephenson who continues to grow in confidence, matching his obvious skill set.

Mosman is top of the Kentwell Cup table and our final hurdle in our regular season. Finals ranking advantages is the ultimate result if focus is on attention to detail.

Watch this space, it’s going to be a corker!
